I Tried Seed Probiotics for Two Months and This is What Happened...
A few months ago Seed sent me their probiotic to try and I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to try such a highly liked and spoken about product. Being in the health and wellness space, I feel like everywhere I look I see Seed. From friends using the product to all of my favorite influencers, Seed really seems to be making waves. While brand collaborations are important to me, I also find it equally important to really try a product and give an open and honest opinion about it. What’s interesting about the world we now live in is that we have to sift through information people are telling us and decide whether it’s something they actually like and have found results from, or if it’s something they’re getting paid to promote. While I think from a brand perspective these practices are incredible- think of something you were totally influenced to buy because you kept seeing everyone on social media post and talk about it, from a consumer perspective its a bit more complicated. As a consumer we now have to take more steps in sifting through reviews and finding authentic information about a product. So in hopes to keep building a community of trust with my readers, here is my open and honest review of Seed!
Pros…
My skin cleared up
My skin completely cleared up while using Seed. While I wish I could say the same now that I’m not using it, my skin has gone back to how it was before and I’m currently on the quest for a skin fix!
It’s a subscription that automatically renews
Supplements are always something I forget to buy at the store, which usually results in going weeks (unfortunately sometimes months) without the products I love, so if Seed is for you this is an added bonus.
Seed uses innovation technology (double capsule and more)
While I can’t eloquently sum up Seed’s technology in a few sentences (there’s a lot to learn) Seed does just that on their website and how much knowledge they offer their consumers is really impressive! Click here to learn more.
No Refrigeration necessary + Eco Friendly Packaging
Seed is easy to pack and travel with, not to mention you can keep them in plain sight rather than the fridge so you don’t forget to take them! They offer you a travel capsule so you don’t have to lug around your entire supply on a quick trip and they send you refills to minimize packaging waste.
Seed goes “beyond the gut”
Seeds’ various strains go beyond gut health and help with other health functions such as dermatological health, cardiovascular health, gut immune function and micronutrient synthesis.
Seed uses Human Clinical Studies and Human Strains
Seeds’ probiotic is backed by human clinical studies and their product includes human strains. Why is this important? Read more here.
Cons…
It’s on the more expensive end for a probiotic
You can’t put a price tag on health but Seed probiotics are more on the expensive end and at $50.00 each month committing to them may be an investment.
There is a possibility of unpleasant side effects when you begin taking seed
My Seed probiotics came with instructions on how to take them (1 capsule for the first week with water on an empty stomach then increasing the dosage to 2 after week 1) along with some warning that it may take time for my body to adjust. I’ve probably tried over 10 brands of probiotics and never in my life have I had such strong side effects from a pill. I was extremely nauseous even when only taking 1 pill and this continued even when my adjustment phase should have been over.
It wasn’t right for me
Seed wasn’t right for me but this may not be the case for you. Everyone is different! Unfortunately these probiotics didn’t give me the digestive glory I had heard so much about and ultimately they left me feeling really nauseous and waking up in the middle of the night with stomach aches. While I’m bummed, I’ve since incorporated a different probiotic back into my routine and I’m finally feeling back to normal.
What I learned!
Probiotics are strain specific. Which makes sense as to why Seed may not have been the right strains for me and my digestive needs yet it may be the reason why my skin cleared up! It’s important to also remember that while one strain may work for one person, this doesn’t mean it will work for another depending on each individuals needs and thus, it’s important to do your RESEARCH (especially when trying something new).
There’s still a lot we don’t know about probiotics as research on our microbiome is ever changing and growing (like anything else really). And so while science evolves, one of the best things we can do for our microbiome in the mean time is get probiotics through our food. While this may not supplement all of our needs, it’s for sure a start.
Numerous research has linked our gut health to chronic illness and disease and it’s important we start paying attention to what we put in our bodies and how we take care of them when it comes to food and supplements.
Just because something works for some, doesn’t mean it works for all. While I was really excited for this '“
holy grail” probiotic I was equally as really bummed when it didn’t work. Products, supplements really anything is never a one size fits all, and it’s important to remember this when trying new things.
