Why you need to buy your first plant...
If you’re looking to bring life into your space, vamp up your decor, or simply for a new hobby like me, look no further than owning your first plant. When my MOH suggested I bring some green into my life, I honestly wasn’t sure if being a plant parent was for me, but since owning my first Monstera, I’m hooked. They’re beautiful (see photo above) but most importantly for someone with a busy lifestyle like me, easy and low maintenance. My new plant has added life into my space, and I’ve learned so much thanks to my friends at Plantics.
Plantics
I got my first plant from Plantics, a women-run small business founded by medical student Carly. They sell beautiful rare plants that add a unique addition to your decor. They have walked me through every step of owning my first plant and their story is so amazing I had to share all the details here on my blog! I could go on and on about Carly and her crew but her website and Instagram beautifully showcase it all! Check them out on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/PlanticsShop and Instagram @plantics.shop to beautify your living area and support a creative new business that employs people who lost their job during the pandemic! Carly has also developed a new non-profit which you can read about here.
A little about my plant
Variegated albo borsigiana is a type of Monstera with beautiful white variegation. It will form roots over time and eventually can be potted in soil. Plantics recommends using water rooting (which I did) but people also use perlite and sphagnum moss. These are tropical plants that love humidity and warmth, and they are an eye-pleasing addition to any style of decor! If you don’t have the luxury of living in a warm climate, not to worry! I’ve kept my Variegated albo borsigiana in my house in one of the warmest rooms next to a humidifier to replicate the most optimal environment for it to grow and I’ve seen amazing results.
5 Benefits of Having Plants:
1. Plants purify the air
The airborne chemicals that plants release attack the pollutants in the air in your home (which can be as polluted as the middle of a city) and helps you breath easier. Plants absorb toxins, produce oxygen and increase humidity, overall making the air quality in your home better!
2. Plants reduce stress and improve mental health
Studies have shown that owning plants can have a positive impact on your mental health. Personalizing your space with plants can help you feel more lively, connected to nature and overall make your space feel more like a creative, fun environment. Plain spaces can feel demotivating and dull, while adding fun decor that you know is healthy for you will make for a more positive, productive mindset.
3. They can actually boost your immune system!
Plants spread positive chemicals that boost your immune system. Just spending time in rooms with plants can help you fight off illness. This is why they put plants in hospitals- studies have proven this!
4. It is therapeutic to care for plants
Plants can be a form of “treatment” for anxiety and depression. Taking care of a plant helps you develop a greater sense of compassion and empathy. They’re like low-maintenance pets.
5. Plants make your space beautiful
Adding plants to your space can make your decor more personal, natural and high vibration. It’s such an easy way to add life into a room and elevate basic interior decor.
